CTUL promotes diversity and racial inclusion and provides multifaceted programs that assist African Americans and all other underserved groups to achieve social equality and economic self-sufficiency. D. Jay Davis, Jr. has become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the premier legal associations in North America.
The special induction ceremony at which D. Jay Davis, Jr. became a Fellow took place before an audience of 807 during the recent Induction Ceremony at the 2019 Annual Meeting of the College in Vancouver, British Columbia. The meeting had a total attendance of 950.
Founded in 1950, the College is composed of the best of the trial bar from the United States and Canada. Fellowship in the College is extended by invitation only and only after careful investigation, to those experienced trial lawyers of diverse backgrounds, who have mastered the art of advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and collegiality. Lawyers must have a minimum of fifteen years trial experience before they can be considered for Fellowship.
Membership in the College cannot exceed one percent of the total lawyer population of any state or province. There are currently approximately 5,800 members in the United States and Canada, including active Fellows, Emeritus Fellows, Judicial Fellows (those who ascended to the bench after their induction) and Honorary Fellows. The College maintains and seeks to improve the standards of trial practice, professionalism, ethics, and the administration of justice through education and public statements on independence of the judiciary, trial by jury, respect for the rule of law, access to justice, and fair and just representation of all parties to legal proceedings. The College is thus able to speak with a balanced voice on important issues affecting the legal profession and the administration of justice.
YCRLAW is pleased to announce that Cole Shannon has joined the firm as an associate in our Construction Law practice group. In law school, Cole served as the Executive Editor and Research Editor on the Journal of Law and Policy, served on the Moot Court Board, and authored appellate briefs in the North Carolina Court of Appeals, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court as a member of Wake Forest’s Appellate Advocacy Clinic. He also won the CALI Award for Appellate Advocacy and the Dean Suzanne Reynolds Award for Academic Excellence in Great Jurists. During law school, he interned for the Honorable J. Michelle Childs and the Honorable David C. Norton. In his free time, Cole enjoys golfing, watching football, and spending time with his friends and family.
YCRLAW is pleased to announce that Ashton Phillips has joined the firm as an associate in our Professional Liability practice group. In law school, Ashton was a member of the Moot Court Bar and clerked for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charleston. Outside of the office, Ashton enjoys playing basketball and golf, and watching Clemson Tigers football. Ashton is an active member at St. Philip’s Church, and his wife Lauren is a NICU nurse at MUSC.

Johnson has served as the International African American Museum board chair and that ground was broken for the IAAM not 100 yards from YCRLAW’s offices last week. The Post & Courier covered this historic event. YCRLAW is grateful for Wilbur’s leadership at the firm and in the community.
YCRLAW is pleased to announce that Alexandra J. Ginsburg has joined the firm as our newest associate. Alex will practice primarily in the firm’s Professional Liability practice group. Before coming to YCRLAW, Alex worked as an Assistant Solicitor in the Ninth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office, during which time she handled a varied caseload and tried numerous cases to jury verdict. She was also the Animal Abuse prosecutor for Charleston County and still serves on the Anti-Cruelty Committee for the Charleston Animal Society. While in law school at the University of Tennessee College of Law, Alex won several CALI awards, including Trial Advocacy. She also clerked with the United States Attorney Office in both Chattanooga and Knoxville, Tennessee. She also was an adjunct professor at the College of Charleston and taught Criminal Justice.
