Live, In-Person Hearings to Resume June 1

Leslie Whitten

The SC Workers’ Compensation Commission has released an advisory notice that in person hearings will resume starting June 1.  However, this comes with many safety precautions.  Participants are required to wait outside the building or in their vehicles until notified by phone that they may enter to attend the hearing.  All parties must wear masks, use hand sanitizer, and remain six feet apart.  Parties with in-person informal conferences scheduled may request those to be handled by phone, and people who would prefer to have a hearing via video platform may request it.

The Commission requests to be notified if any party has been diagnosed with Covid-19 or is at higher risk (such as those who recently travelled via airplane or have been in contact with someone diagnosed with Covid-19).  The Commission also requests that all documentation be submitted electronically.  It is unclear at this time when or how documentation will be submitted or how the Commission will handle objections to evidence being submitted.

We’ll update you as we receive new information.  In the meantime, feel free to contact us with any questions on how this could effect your claims.
