2019 and 2020 Cyber Attacks

Potentially more than 200,000,000 Fortnite users and almost every citizen of Ecuador had their data breached in 2019.  You can read about the biggest cyber-attacks of 2019 here and here.  2020 has already seen its first major breach; Travelex, a foreign currency-exchange company, received a ransomware attack that hijacked the company’s system.  Hackers demanded a six-figure sum in return for the decryption key.

In most cases, these attacks were likely preventable.  Companies failed to patch known vulnerabilities or failed to password protect sensitive information.  Start out 2020 on the right foot with updated cyber policies that are diligently followed.  As always, please contact us with any questions about whether your policies or breach response plan are sufficient and compliant with the law.
