Jim grew up in McClellanville, South Carolina and graduated from Archibald Rutledge Academy in 1990. Upon graduation from high school, he attended Clemson University graduating in 1994 with a degree in Political Science. Jim earned his Juris Doctorate degree from University of South Carolina School of Law in 2001 and was admitted to the South Carolina Bar that same year.
In August of 2001 Jim accepted an associate position at Young Clement Rivers, LLP, in the Professional Liability Group. He was made a partner in the firm in 2010.
Jim is a frequent speaker and presenter on issues related to trial preparation in the medical malpractice arena. He is an active participant in mock trial presentations to physicians, nurses, dentists and other health care professionals across the State of South Carolina, focusing on the challenges of cross examination in deposition and trial. He regularly presents to the South Carolina Medical Association, various statewide medical societies and Hospitals.
Jim is a member of the South Carolina State Bar, US District Court for the District of South Carolina, the American Bar Association, Charleston County Bar Association, and the South Carolina Defense Trial Lawyers association. Jim also serves on the Firm’s marketing committee.
Jim is active in community organizations in his home town of McClellanville. He has served on Town council for the past 7 years. He is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Archibald Rutledge Academy. He is an active member of the New Wappetaw Presbyterian Church. Jim was recently appointed to the Clemson University Cooperative Extension Advisory Council.
